How to Buy ATV Brake Parts -2

Disc Brakes
Like drum brakes, disc brakes slow and stop a vehicle by converting mechanical energy to heat through friction. In disc braking systems, a brake disc is attached to the axle of a vehicle, typically with one at each wheel or a single disc somewhere in the middle. When brakes are applied, a brake caliper pushes brake pads on each side of the disc together, creating friction and slowing the disc. An ATV might have a disc brake on the front and rear axle, one disc brake on each wheel, two drum brakes in the front and a single disc brake in the rear, or a number of other configurations.
